Pratt Industries has
helped launch former British Prime Minister Tony Blair's
bid to provide world leaders with an effective policy
implementation framework to fight climate change in the
run up to the global summit in Copenhagen next year.
Company Chairman Anthony Pratt and Mr. Blair
announced details of the “Breaking the Climate Deadlock”
initiative at a kick-off reception held in New York City
in September.
"This initiative is aimed at building political and
business support among key players in the industrialized
world,” said Pratt.
“We need a framework agreement on climate change and
strategies for its subsequent implementation leading up
to Copenhagen.”
Said Blair: “What is essential is that the world,
especially the world of business, gets from Copenhagen
clear, unequivocal direction.
“And I want to thank Anthony most sincerely for his
support.”
Pratt and the former P.M. have also been joined by The
Climate Group in their efforts to get the framework in
place.
September's event was the first-step in trying to raise
$10 million over the next 12 months to support the Blair
initiative. Pratt Industries kicked off the drive with a
$300,000 donation.
“It will be money well spent,” said Pratt. “The planet
faces no greater challenge than global warming and
climate change. And our company and our 3500
green-collar employees want to be part of that
solution.”
