A Message from the Vice President of
Sales and Marketing |
Greetings!
At Pratt Industries, we believe the
future is bright and we move boldly
towards both the challenges and
opportunities in front of us. Like
others, we must always be looking
for more efficient ways to do all
that we do. This serves your
company, our company, this
generation and the next.
In this edition of Pratt E-News
you'll read about how "AG-sighted"
we are for the future! Our
Agriculture Segment team has refined
its overall strategy by developing
new innovative products and
services, investing in the latest
manufacturing technologies, and
securing the brightest and most
experienced talent in the industry.
Read what a couple of our valued
customers have to say about our
progress.
We are also very proud to announce
the recent Grand Opening of the most
advanced recycled paper mill in the
world. Located in Shreveport, La.,
Governor Bobby Jindal hailed this
$160 million mill as a sign of
better economic times for his
state. The facility, which
specializes in producing lightweight
containerboard, will enable you and
our other customers to reduce
unnecessary packaging, thus smartly
matching package performance with
your needs. This is good for your
bottom line and great for our
environment!
Another brief article features
Pratt's new $60 million clean energy
plant which converts previously
land-filled materials into renewable
energy to power our Conyers
manufacturing complex; the first of
four such projects planned.
"Be Orange. Think Green." In the
next short article, you'll read
about Home Depot's nationwide Eco
Options program. This program gives
consumers the choice of buying more
environmentally-friendly products -
and it turned to Pratt for help in
introducing its new line of green
packaging.
And finally, retail giant Walmart
teamed with Pratt to develop the
utmost in sustainable packaging for
their private label pizzas.
Thanks for allowing us to serve
you! We will pro-actively seek the
opportunity to engage you concerning
your sustainable packaging needs.
However, please don't hesitate to
contact us about your
current requirements. We are more
than ready to offer profit-improving
recommendations that are good for
your company and the environment.

Pratt
Industries' heritage dates back to
1948 where our very first packaging
customers were produce growers in
Shepparton, Victoria, Australia
harvesting peaches, pears, apricots
and canned goods. Over 60 years
later, Pratt Industries' Ag Group
continues to be market-driven and
pro-active in supporting the
packaging needs of top produce
growers in the United States.
Among those highly successful
companies is Bland Farms,
headquartered in Glennville,
Georgia.
Bland Farms, an industry-recognized
name for and producer of Vidalia
Sweet Onions, grows almost one-third
of all Vidalia onions marketed. Its
product quality, service and
attention to detail have sustained
the company's growth as it became
the largest grower, packer, and
shipper of sweet onions in the
country.
"Pratt Industries has become a very
important partner for Bland Farms,"
said Richard Pazderski, Director of
Sales and Marketing for produce
giant. "The quality products and
services we receive from Pratt allow
us to be a better supplier to our
customers and, in the end,
relationships like this will allow
us to more effectively drive our
business."
Southern Valley is a fully
integrated year-round vegetable
farming, packing and sales company
based in Norman Park, Georgia.
Southern Valley was founded in 1987
with a commitment to integrity,
excellence and relationships which
continue to be their core values
today. It offers a full range of
services to the retail, wholesale
and food service industries.
"Southern Valley believes in and
operates with a simple concept -
people want to do business with
people they trust. We do business
with Pratt," said Jon Schwalls,
Director of Operations for Southern
Valley.
Among Pratt's many other
satisfied produce customers are
Dundee Citrus, Sweet Dixie Melon,
Coggins Farms & Produce, Lewis
Taylor Farms, Murray Farms, Gibbs
Patrick Farms and Baker Farms.
Pratt is actively growing its
agricultural division and is
involved in a strategic range of new
packaging innovations and processes.

WAL-MART CLOSES THE LOOP |
Wal-Mart has teamed with
Pratt Industries to recycle
corrugated waste from its
stores into recycled boxes
for its private-label pizza
line. See video : WAL-MART
Closes the loop
"We've totally and literally
closed the loop using a
retailer's own boxes
to go through our paper mill
and then to make corrugated
boxes out of those same
boxes again," said Myles
Cohen, Pratt's Recycling
Division President. "Quite
frankly, the program is
groundbreaking. It's the
future."
Walmart's Chet Rutledge

Anthony Pratt (right)
The genesis of the project
began when Pratt was
approached to help Wal-Mart
improve the sustainability
of its pizza boxes.
Wal-Mart's Director of
Packaging Procurement -
Private Brands, Chet
Rutledge, had a vision to
create a closed-loop
operation utilizing old
corrugated containers (OCC)
from their stores. After
receipt of the OCC, Pratt
manufactures 100% Recycled
Containerboard which is then
converted at our Valparaiso,
IN box plant into pizza
boxes used to package pizzas
prepared by Walmart's
partner, Great Kitchens of
Illinois.
Rutledge had this to say
about the initiative,
"Innovation can often be
found in the simplest of
things. We encourage our
supply partners to look for
creative solutions that are
efficient and effective.
Being sustainable doesn't
have to be complicated.
It's as simple as looking
for opportunities to be more
efficient in all stages of
the supply chain. By working
together with our supply
partners we can deliver the
most cost effective products
for our customers."
Wal-Mart estimates this
measure alone will save 8600
tons of waste from
landfills. Additionally, it
will reduce the need to
consume the equivalent of 40
million gallons of water and
125,000 trees. Wal-Mart
wants to reduce packaging in
its global supply chain by 5
percent by 2013.

CLEAN ENERGY PLANT DIVERTS &
CONVERTS |

Pratt's commitment
to the environment
now extends beyond
our pledge to
provide customers
with 100 percent
recycled paper and
packaging.
The company is
currently bringing
on line its first
Clean Energy plant
which is converting
previously-landfilled
materials through a
gasification process
- including rejects
from our
paper-making process
and construction
wood waste - into
renewable energy to
power our Conyers
manufacturing
complex.
The benefits of our
Clean Energy plant
to the environment
go far beyond
reducing just our
own carbon
footprint. The new
plant will generate
almost 9 megawatts
of electricity,
easing the strain on
already over-loaded
power grids.
Further, it will
divert approximately
700 tons of waste
materials from the
landfill every day.
All told, the
facility will
displace
approximately 310
tons of greenhouse
gas emissions per
day.
The Conyers plant,
built at a cost of
$60 million, is part
of our Clinton
Global Initiative
commitment. Pratt
Industries pledged
to invest an
additional $1
billion in recycling
and clean energy
infrastructure over
the next decade. It
is the first of four
such clean energy
facilities we've
outlined under that
commitment.

THE HOME DEPOT'S GREEN COMMITMENT |

The Home Depot has
expanded its long-term
commitment to the
environment and
sustainability with the
introduction of its Eco
Options program.
With more than 3500
products, Eco Options is
an exclusive brand
which gives consumers
the choice of buying
products that have less
of an impact on the
environment that
competing products.
And it turned to Pratt
for help in introducing
this new line of green
packaging, with the
introduction to its
stores of storage,
moving and packaging
supplies using our 100%
recycled boxes, as well
as our 100%
biodegradable stretch
wrap, bubble wrap and
packaging peanuts.
"These moving and
storage products will
not only allow our
customers to be more
environmentally
friendly, but we also
save them money since
they are priced lower
than any other retailer
in the marketplace,"
said Jeff Hammill,
merchant for The Home
Depot.
Pratt CEO Brian McPheely
said: "All the employees
of Pratt Industries are
extremely excited to
partner with an iconic
brand like The Home
Depot. It's even more
rewarding to find a
partner who shares our
values on
sustainability."
Every year, the Home
Depot-Pratt partnership
will help save more than
500,000 trees, reduce
landfills by 60,000
cubic yards, 135 million
gallons of water,
30,000 tons of GHG
emissions and 90 million
kWhrs of electricity.

LIGHTWEIGHT MILL MEANS LESS
PACKAGING & WASTE |
 Pratt
Industries recently
celebrated the grand
opening of its $160m
recycled paper mill
and material
recovery facility
(MRF) in Shreveport,
La, with Governor
Bobby Jindal hailing
it as sign of better
economic times for a
state still
struggling in the
wake of Hurricane
Katrina.
The governor,
flanked by company
chairman and owner
Anthony Pratt and
local leaders, told
250 guests at the
facility: "We're
working to attract
companies like Pratt
that will help our
state compete in new
industry sectors,
which is critical
for our future
growth," he said.
"Known for being a
green company, Pratt
Industries will use
advanced technology
to manufacture
environmentally
friendly products
for the packaging
industry."
The mill, our third
in the U.S.,
produces lightweight
container board
which we believe
will help the drive
to less packaging
and less waste in
America.
"This is the most
advanced recycled
paper mill in the
world and it's a
dream come true for
me and my family,"
said Anthony, who
invoked the memory
of his late father,
telling guests:
"This day is a
tribute to my father
and his vision."
"Our company has
more than 50 plants
across the United
States providing
3500 green-collar
jobs and this site
is a crowning
achievement," said
Pratt.
He told the audience
the mill and
adjacent Material
Recovery Center
where recyclables
collected from the
city are processed
let residents play
their part in the
battle against
climate change.
Since recycling came
to the city 12
months ago,
residents have
prevented more than
9000 tons of carbon
emissions, saved
110,000 trees and
kept 8000 tons of
waste out of the
city landfill.
The company is now
rolling out a
commercial recycling
program in the
region as well.
